Roofs in Aroona: what we see and what we do
Aroona climbs the hills west of Currimundi and was mostly built in the 1980s and 90s. The typical home is a brick single-storey on a sloping block with a concrete tile roof, often with a steep driveway and a roof line that faces every direction. Later streets near Little Mountain added flat-profile tiles and a few Colorbond roofs. Many of the original 1980s tiles have faded to a patchy grey and the ridge mortar has cracked.
At one to two kilometres from the surf, Aroona sits in the C3 coastal band under AS 4312: less salt than the beachfront but still enough to rust unprotected metal. The bigger issues are UV and rain. BOM records about 1,490 mm a year on the coast, and it finds every cracked ridge. Seaspray Restos cleans, re-points and coats tile roofs here with primer and two membrane coats.
