Roofs in Kings Beach: what we see and what we do
Kings Beach is Caloundra's main surf beach, and the houses and unit blocks along the headland cop the full brunt of it. Most of the housing dates from the 1960s to the 1980s: brick homes with concrete tiles on the hill, terracotta on a few older places and flat-profile tiles on the three-storey walk-up units behind the saltwater pool. Many of those roofs have never been restored, and the original tile coating has long since chalked away.
Anything within 200 metres of the surf sits in the C5 band of the AS 4312 corrosivity guide, the harshest rating for residential roofing in Australia. Valley irons, gutters, screws and flashings rust years earlier than they would inland. Seaspray Restos replaces corroded metal, re-points the ridges, and seals the tiles with a primer and two membrane coats so the salt has nothing porous to get into.
