Roofs in Wurtulla: what we see and what we do
Wurtulla is the southern end of Kawana Waters, between Currimundi Lake and the surf beach. The Kawana estate began in 1960 and Wurtulla filled in through the 1970s and 80s with single-storey brick homes and concrete tile roofs. Most have never been restored. The tiles have faded to grey, the ridge mortar has cracked, and the valley irons under the tile overlap are rusting through on the beach-side streets.
Homes near the beach access tracks sit in the C5 surf-front band of AS 4312, and the rest of the suburb is C4 within a kilometre of the surf. The March 2025 winds from ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred lifted ridge caps on older roofs across Kawana.
