Roofs in Pacific Paradise: what we see and what we do
Pacific Paradise is one of the older North Shore suburbs, laid out in the 1970s and 80s between the Maroochy River, David Low Way and the Sunshine Coast Airport. The housing is uniform: single-storey brick homes with concrete tile hip roofs on level blocks, with a few terracotta roofs from the earliest streets. Most of those tiles are on their first coating, now faded to grey and porous, with cracked mortar along the ridges.
The suburb sits roughly a kilometre from Mudjimba Beach, so it straddles the C4 near-coastal band of AS 4312, with the river adding salt from the west. Rust on valleys, gutters and fixings is common. BOM's airport station next door records 1,492.6 mm a year, and that rain soaks into bare tiles. Seaspray Restos cleans, repairs, re-points and seals these roofs with primer and two membrane coats.
Things to watch on Pacific Paradise roofs
- Bare, porous concrete tiles from the 1970s and 80s build
- Rusted valley irons and gutter joints near the river and beach
- Cracked ridge bedding on hip roofs after 40 years of movement
